TOP of the BAY girls lacrosse team takes third

Participated in national championship tournament

Team TOP of the BAY, a girls lacrosse team from Harford County, took third place in the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships held in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., at the Wide World of Sports Complex last week.

Grace Richards (John Carroll '15) led the team in scoring with 17 goals in seven games, while Miranda Ibello (Maryvale '14) was a close second with 16 goals and Emma Wall (John Carroll '14) finished the tournament with 15 goals and also led the team in assists with seven.

The defense was anchored by Haley Kyger (John Carroll '14), who caused 15 turnovers and Julia Braig (St. Pauls School for Girls '15) who scooped up 10 ground balls. 

The goalkeeping was stellar with Sarah Northern (Good Counsel '14) making 21 saves and Haley Hicklen (Towson '15) making 27 saves.

TOP of the BAY faced Greater Houston, Connecticut and LakeShore from Illinois and went 3-0 in pool play. In the championship bracket, TOP of the BAY faced Stickbenders from Vero Beach, Fla., and won 18-4. The next opponent was Northern California Elite and TOP of the BAY won 10-4. 

The only loss to the group from Maryland was to Stars Gold in the semifinal. TOP of the BAY rebounded and defeated Long Island Top Guns in sudden death overtime 10-9 on an 8-meter shot from Gabby Burns (NDP '15), thus earning third place.

TOP of the BAY is coached by Caroline Haggerty (John Carroll '13), Emily May (Hereford '12), Jordan Sdanowich (John Carroll '13), Catherine Angert (John Carroll '14), Krystin Porcella (John Carroll Coach, iLAX Coach), Jessica Smith (Patterson Mill Head Coach, iLAX Coach), Amber Harmon (Team iLAX Coach) and Chelsea Ford (John Carroll Coach, iLAX Coach).
