Domonique Foxworth was NFLPA executive board 'eye candy'

When ESPN's cameras broadcast NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA head honcho DeMaurice Smith -- who were flanked by a group of players and owners that included Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth -- as they held a press conference that officially declared the end of the lockout, I grabbed my voice recorder and held it up to the television in case Foxworth said something of note for our serious Ravens reporters.

Instead, Foxworth gave reporters a silly sound bite that only made sense for this blog. But hey, I’ll take it.

Stepping up to the podium after Colts center Jeff Saturday, who thanked the wives of NFLPA executive board members for their patience and praised Patriots owner Robert Kraft for his dedication to the negotiations while his wife was losing her battle with cancer, Foxworth got some chuckles with the following statement.  

“I feel the same as Jeff. I have a tremendous amount of love for Jeff,” he said. “I think the biggest thing that I needed to say [is that I have] a great deal of appreciation for my wife, who is taking care of our eight-month old daughter and studying for the bar [exam] at the same time to allow me to be here. Other than that, I think they just put me up here for eye candy. Because obviously, I am more attractive than anyone else who has been up here, and I just like pissing De [Smith] off as much as possible.”

Hey, the lockout is finally over and the NFL is back in business, so forgive Foxworth for feeling a little giddy.
