Baltimore police officer Daniel G. Redd, charged this week in a heroin conspiracy, will remain in federal custody pending trial after a detention hearing Friday.
At a hearing in U.S. District Court, defense attorney Sean Vitrano did not contest federal prosecutors' request that Redd be detained. Magistrate Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher said Redd, 41, a resident of Northeast Baltimore, can request another hearing.
Vitrano declined to comment on the allegations against his client.
Redd's arrest, along with others, capped a six-month investigation involving wiretaps and surveillance. At one point, according to court documents, authorities believe the officer made a drug deal in the parking lot of his police station in Park Heights.
Richard McFeely, special agent in charge of the FBI field office in Baltimore, said in a statement that the drug organization "flooded the streets of Baltimore with heroin."
Baltimore police said they referred the investigation to the FBI.
