Gilmor Street victim dies from injuries

25th stabbing in city in 2011, surpasses total for 2010

A man stabbed Tuesday afternoon in West Baltimore died as a result of his injuries, police said. The case remains open and police did not disclose motives.

Officers were called to the 800 block of N. Gilmor St. at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and found medics working on Marvin Lee Hayes in the middle of the street. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 5:20 p.m.

Hayes, 22, had a last known address in the 1600 block of W. Lanvale St.

Hayes' killing is the 25th fatal stabbing this year in Baltimore, surpassing the total stabbing deaths in all of last year when 24 people were killed by knives or sharp objects, according to police records.

Overall, homicides are up, with 117 people killed this year compared with 111 at this time last year.
