Tanger is new owner of OC Factory Outlets

If you go outlet shopping in Ocean City and things seem a little different it may be because it has a new owner.

Baltimore's Cordish Co. has sold two of its retail centers, including Ocean City Factory Outlets and Atlantic City Outlets The Walk,  to Tanger Outlets for $199 million.

If you shop in Rehoboth Beach then you're already familiar with Tanger and its bennies, including TangerStyle coupons offering 20 percent off (through Aug. 31), membership in the TangerClub and gift cards.

The Ocean City outlets offer more than 40 retailers from Calvin Klein to Gap to Jos. A Bank and more. Cordish acquired the outlets in OC for $10 million back in 1995.

So what kind of changes can shoppers expect? I don't know, but Tanger is already talking up "synergies" between the locations in OC and Rehoboth.

Of course, Premium Outlets, formerly Prime Outlets, in Queenstown offers some competition. But for now, it looks like Tanger has a lock on the outlet shopping scene for Maryland beachgoers.
