Alcohol and speed are factors in crash, police said

Anne Arundel County Police are investigating a crash in Jessup that killed a 50-year-old resident.

The accident occurred at 3 a.m. Wednesday, when a Ford pick-up truck traveling south on Montevideo Road struck Robert Ashworth Brown, who died at the scene, police said.

Brown, of the 2000 block of Citrus Avenue, was walking along the road near Montevideo Court, police said. Investigators initially called the accident a hit and run. But Keith Edward Harrell, 23, who police identified as the truck's driver, returned to the scene shortly after officers arrived.

Investigators said speed and alcohol are factors in the crash and charges are pending. Police have not determined whether Brown and Harrell, who lives in the same block on Citrus Avenue, knew each other.
