Plein air event

Artists will take to the streets of Ellicott City on Friday-Sunday, July 8-10, for a plein air event — painting the outdoors from life. The Howard County Arts Council, Howard County Tourism and Promotion, and the Howard County public schools present this weekend culminating in an exhibit of 27 juried artists at the Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road. There will be an artists' reception from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Wine Bin, 8390 Main St. At 8:30 p.m., juror Terry Shovlin, an artist and teacher at the Carver Center for Arts & Technology in Towson, will give a presentation on plein air painting. The weekend's artwork will be exhibited at the Howard County Center for the Arts beginning Monday, July 11. The juried artists will be featured in the art center's Gallery I through Aug. 26.
