'Open Doors' closes its doors

July 01, 2011

After more than 30 years of service to the county, Open Doors Career Center is closing its doors for good.

Established in 1979 , Open Doors was one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in Harford County.

Over the past few years the organization suffered budget cuts, and earlier this month, the organization's board of directors decided to officially dissolve the organization as of June 30.

The nonprofit originally began to serve displaced homemakers re-entering the workforce and over the years expanded its programs to serve teen and senior citizens.

While the nonprofit will tie up loose ends through the end of July, Thursday was its last official day of operation.

The organization has served more than 14,000 women since its creation.
