A 24-year-old man died after he was shot in the back in what may have been a robbery in West Baltimore late Tuesday night, police said.

Christopher Russell Samuel, of the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Ave., became the 100th person killed in Baltimore this year, two more than this time last year.

Police said the shooting was reported at 11:52 p.m. in the 500 block of Mosher Street, in the Upton community. Samuels was shot in the back, and witnesses said he may have run to the spot where he was found after being robbed and shot, police said. He did not appear to have a criminal record.

A cousin, Samyra Sealy, said Samuel leaves behind a young child and a wife. "We are in shock," she said in an e-mail. "We just want some justice. This was a senseless act of violence."

Samuels was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to police.
