Superfresh now has the blessing of a bankruptcy judge to sell 12 stores, all located in the Baltimore area and Washington.
The judge last week approved the sale of 10 stores to a joint venture composed of natural foods chain Mrs. Green's Management Corp. and Village Super Market Inc. Two stores are in Baltimore, on Charles Street and on 41st Street, with the others in Parkville, Arnold, White Oak, Lutherville-Timonium, Cambridge, Chestertown, Brunswick and Washington.
The judge previously approved the sale of two other stores. One, in Ellicott City, will be sold to SuperValu, which will turn the store into a Shoppers Food & Pharmacy. The other store, in Westminster, will be sold to the current landlord, Englar Center Limited Partnership.
Superfresh parent A&P originally sought to sell 25 stores, but it found buyers for only 12.
The chain will close all 25 locations in mid-July. Two Superfresh stores in http://www.baltimoresun.com/travel/beaches/ will remain open. They are the last in the Superfresh chain.
