Substitute Charlie Davies converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute to give visiting D.C. United a 1-1 Major League Soccer tie with Real Salt Lake. Davies drove into the right side of the penalty area against Real's Chris Wingert, and although there appeared to be little or no contact, Davies went down to win the penalty. Of Davies' five goals off the bench this season, four have helped United (4-5-5) earn either a win or a tie. Fabian Espindola scored on a penalty in the 38th minute to give Real (6-3-4) a 1-0 lead after United's Clyde Simms was called for a handball in the box.

WNBA: The visiting Washington Mystics (1-4) were routed, 77-59, by the host Tulsa Shock (1-5), which got 22 points from Ivory Latta, including 18 in the second half. The Mystics, who led 32-26 at halftime, were led by 12 apiece from former Terps Marissa Coleman and Crystal Langhorne and 11 from Karima Christmas. Washington shot 33.8 percent from the field and had 16 turnovers. Latta was 4-for-5 from the 3-point arc in the second half, and Sheryl Swoopes added 13 points for the Shock.

Pro wrestling: World heavyweight champion Randy Orton posted on Twitter that he passed his ImPACT test and is medically cleared to wrestle Christian on today's "Capitol Punishment" pay-per-view at the Verizon Center in Washington. Orton had suffered a concussion at a WWE house show last week in Madrid, Spain, and his participation at "Capitol Punishment" depended on his passing the concussion test.

NBA: TheWashington Wizards picked up third-year options on the rookie contracts of Trevor Booker, Jordan Crawford, Kevin Seraphin and John Wall. The team also extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Othyus Jeffers, Hamady Ndiaye, Larry Owens and Nick Young.

Minor league baseball: Left-handed starting pitcher Mike Ballard allowed just three hits in eight innings as the visiting Bowie Baysox earned a 3-1 victory against the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the Double-A Eastern League. … The host Aberdeen IronBirds were held to three hits in a 3-1 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades in the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League.

Pro football: Former Boston Patriots linebacker Tom Addison has died at the age of 75. Addison, who attended South Carolina, was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1958 but didn't play for them. He became an original member of the American Football League's Patriots in 1960 and was an All-Star from 1960 to 1964.
