Hines Ward says the Ravens can win with Joe Flacco

Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley ruffled the feathers of Ravens fans last week when he told NFL Network that Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco would never win a Super Bowl “in his lifetime.” But Woodley’s veteran teammate Hines Ward refused to provide more bulletin board fodder when talking about Woodley’s claim.

Appearing on NFL Network on Wednesday, Ward said the Ravens have a “great team” and they “can win with Flacco.” Ward wasn’t “going to put any bulletin board material out there,” but he said he understood where Woodley was coming from because you have to go into this heated rivalry expecting to beat the Ravens.

“I don’t disrespect the Baltimore Ravens,” Ward told NFL Network’s Rich Eisen. “I agree with [Woodley] as far as you have to have confidence, especially going into that rivalry. You can’t strap up your chinstrap and say, ‘Man, I hope we beat Baltimore.’ You’ve got to go in saying, ‘You know what? We’re going to go out there and kick their tails and may the best team win.’ The rivalry itself speaks for itself.”

Ravens coach John Harbaugh recently appeared on NFL Network, too, and he said the Ravens “appreciate being underappreciated.” But Harbaugh insisted that the Ravens don’t need bulletin board material for Steelers week. “We will be ready for LaMarr Woodley and the rest of that football team, and they know it.”

Back to Ward, who was asked how long he plans on strapping on the pads. The most hated wideout in Baltimore said he hopes to last one season longer than Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. “I just want to play the Baltimore Ravens without seeing fifty-two out on the field,” said Ward, flashing a wide grin, of course.
