County Council's opposition to in-state tuition law is cowardly and ineffectual

June 15, 2011

Thanks for your insight into the capers of the Baltimore County Council, which, with the exception of two members, attempted to gang up on the children of immigrants who might be eligible for in-state college tuition rates ("County council picks the wrong fight," June 11).

Since it seems to be open season on these children, the council's action could not be more cowardly or ineffectual. The fact that it played no role in the passage of this legislation and assumes almost no expense in implementing it shows that the members' opposition to the law giving in-state tuition rates to undocumented students is purely political.
