50th wedding anniversary

Ronald and Janet Able were married June 17, 1961, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lexington, Ky. The couple have lived in Laurel, in the first house they purchased, since April 1971.

Until her retirement in January 2010, Janet worked for more than 35 years at Citizen's National Bank, now PNC, on Main Street. Currently serving on the Laurel Board of Trade, she likes gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Ronald served in the Army, with the Lexington Police Department and was self-employed as a restaurant owner and restoration contractor until his retirement in 2009. He attends various information technology classes at Prince George's Community College and spends time researching the family genealogy at the Mormon Temple. He volunteers with a nonprofit agency that supplies computers to organizations in need and has traveled to South Africa to help set up computers.

The Ables have three children, Angela; Brian and his wife, Michelle; and Christen; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas.

An anniversary celebration is planned for June 18 at Ferrari's restaurant.
