You could have dined all weekend at street festivals - HONfest, the Greek Folk Festival at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and the Feast of Saint Anthony Festival in Little Italy were all this weekend. I made a whirlwind tour of all three on Saturday, but I only ate at the Greek festival, where I had some delectable fried smelts and pretty-in-pink grilled octopus. And inside St. Nicholas , where the church ladies sell homemade Greek pastries in the basement, I bought a dozen ahladakia, which the festival's website describes as "soft buttered cookies, pear shaped, dipped in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and finely chopped walnuts." They're calling me now.
Googling ahladakia doesn't get you much, mostly hits related to the St. Nicholas festival. I wish I'd thought to ask the ladies down there more about them. I wish my iPhone didn't keep saying There is not enough disk space to continue taking photos. Make room by deleting existing videos or photos, or I'd have taken a picture of them.
