Missouri rising senior Kim English (Randallstown) is among 22 college players who have accepted invitations from the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee to attend the World University Games team training camp July 29 to Aug. 7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Twelve of the players will represent the United States at the games Aug. 13-23 in Shenzhen, China.
Minor leagues: The Bay Area Shuckers of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League named Jonathan Mason assistant coach. Mason has been an assistant at Frostburg State, his alma mater, and at Meade.
Youth: Former Washington Bullet Gheorghe Muresan, the tallest player in NBA history, will be one of several players on hand as The Green Hoops for Hope Foundation looks to set a world record Saturday by assembling the largest group of children to dribble mini basketballs simultaneously. The event will be held from 4:30p.m. to 6p.m. at the Cabin John Regional Park in the Shirley Povich Field parking lot at 10600 Westlake Drive in Rockville.

Hopkins' Rodger makes Lindy's preseason football All-America team
Johns Hopkins rising senior center Ed Rodger was selected as a Preseason First Team All-American by Lindy's. Rodger was a d3football.com All-America honorable mention last season.
Men's lacrosse: Washington College named Corey Bulken, Larry Kline and Shayne Lynch as assistant coaches. Bulken led Division II in faceoff percentage (.690) as a senior this season at Le Moyne. Kline was an assistant at Binghamton, his alma mater. Lynch was a four-year letter winner at Wesley and served as an intern at Washington this past winter and spring.
Men's outdoor track and field: Coppin State sophomore Jibri Victorian finished seventh in his heat of the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Victorian, running out of lane one, finished in 52.10; Jeshua Anderson of Washington State won the heat in 49.18.
Frostburg State: Senior volleyball and tennis standout Sarah Stephens was selected by the Capital Athletic Conference Directors of Athletics as the league's NCAA Woman of the Year program candidate.
Baseball: Harford Community College freshman shortstop James Wilson was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-American.

Big weekend for Bays Chelsea; Dawson advances in Georgia
The Baltimore Bays Chelsea won four soccer games last weekend. The under-19 team took the Maryland State Cup to qualify for the Region 1 championship in Lancaster, Pa., by defeating the Bethesda Internationals, 6-0, and the Soccer Association of Columbia, 3-1. Jereme Raley (Maryland) scored five goals, and Pete Caringi (Calvert Hall, UMBC) had two. Jeremy Kirkwood (McDonogh) and Milo Kapor (UMBC) also scored. The under-18 and under-16 academy teams moved closer to clinching their playoff spots by defeating Potomac, 5-3 and 1-0. The under-18 Bays' goals were scored by Mike Kovach (Arundel) with two, Malcolm Harris (McDonogh), Rick Greensfelder (Archbishop Curley) and Romillio Hernandez (DeMatha). The under-16 goal was scored by Christian Porras (Rockville).
Women's golf: Towson University's Airielle Dawson of Parkville advanced in the championship flight consolation bracket of the Women's Southern Amateur at Capital City Country Club in Atlanta by defeating Taffy Brower of Boynton Beach, Fla., 2-up. Dawson will face Emily Flanigan of Celebration, Fla., this morning.
