Churchill Davenport received the Davis & Elkins College Spirit award for outstanding achievement in student life during the Davis & Elkins College 2011 Honors Convocation. An environmental science ands sustainability studies major, Davenport is from Owings Mills, and is the son of Churchill Davenport and Laurie Fader.

Mariya Makhlyagina, of Reisterstown, is among 40 juniors and seniors inducted into the McDaniel College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at a May 1 ceremony held on campus.

Danny Kaufman, of Owings Mills, son of Mona and Russ Kaufman, sister of Mia Kaufman, graduated with honors from Carver Center for Arts and Technology and has been accepted and will attend Carnegie Mellon University this fall. At CMU, he has been accepted into the College of Fine Arts, School of Design. While at Carver, Kaufman was a member of three honor societies, advance placement art studio and member of the culture, philosophy, art, and history clubs. Last summer, he studied photography at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Emerson Koerber, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Koerber, of Reisterstown, performed for a crowd of approximately 9,000 people at the CONSOL Energy Center, in Pittsburgh, on April 30. Emo is a member of the Randolph-Macon Academy Band, which, in conjunction with the R-MA Chorus, performed an hour-long concert, "A Salute to Patriots," as part of the National Rifle Association's "Celebration of American Values Freedom Experience."

Erika Wohl, a member of the class of 2014 at Skidmore College, received academic recognition at the college this spring. She is the daughter of Nanci Wohl, of Baltimore, and Joel Wohl, of Owings Mills.

Wohl was selected for membership in the Honors Forum, which works to strengthen intellectual life at Skidmore and especially to encourage the academic aspirations of highly motivated and talented students. Formal membership in the Honors Forum is based on academic accomplishment.

Ariel Adams, of Owings Mills, received the 2011 Graduating Senior award in human services for outstanding academic achievement. Adams was chosen by faculty members and was cited on May 3 at ceremonies on the Springfield, Mass., campus.

Eric Kagen, of Owings Mills, graduated the University of South Carolina, double majoring in accounting and finance Summa Cum Laude. Kagen will be going to graduate school in accounting at theUniversity of Texas.

Kevin Kagen, of Owings Mills, graduated the University of South Carolina, double majoring in finance and real estate Cum Laude. Kagen will pursue his masters in real estate degree.

Marc and Rachel Hess announced that their daughter, Danielle Hess, of Owings Mills, made dean's list at Penn State University during her freshman year.

Aaron Formanek, of Owings Mills, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design from York College of Pennsylvania.

The following residents graduated from Hampton University during the May 8 ceremony:

Stacey Armstead, of Owings Mills; Barry Blackwell, of Owings Mills; Graylin Smith, of Reisterstown; and Justin Edwards, of Baltimore.

David Phillips, of Reisterstown, a member of the class of 2013 earned honor roll status for the winter term from Washington and Lee.

The following area residents were named to the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester at Grove City College:

Dana Murrill, a junior elementary education major, is a 2008 graduate of Chapelgate Christian Academy and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Murrill, of Reisterstown; Craig Murrill, a freshman biology, is a 2010 graduate of Chapelgate Christian Academy and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Murrill, of Reisterstown.

The following local students have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester at York College of Pennsylvania:

Emily Karshm, of Owings Mills, a junior graphic design major; Gabriel Ehrlich, of Reisterstown, a senior political science major; Courtney Heller, of Reisterstown, a senior elementary education/special education major; Kristan Miller, of Reisterstown, a sophomore psychology major; Susanne Wolf, of Baltimore, a senior English literary studies major; and Ilana Grossman, of Baltimore, a senior recreation major.

Bowdoin College held its annual Honors Day ceremony May 11. The following students from were recognized for their achievements:

Rakiya Orange, of Owings Mills, a member of the Bowdoin College class of 2011, has been awarded the Award for Excellence in Dance Performance. Orange is majoring in anthropology and minoring in dance; and Louis Weeks, of Baltimore, a member of the Bowdoin College class of 2011, has been awarded the Sue Winchell Burnett Music Prize. Weeks is majoring in English and minoring in music.

On May 14, the following local students were awarded a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary's College of Maryland:
