Flextronics warns of 173 layoffs across the state

Half of the cuts will be in Baltimore region

June 07, 2011|By Jamie Smith Hopkins, The Baltimore Sun

Electronics services company Flextronics has warned state regulators that it will lay off 173 employees in Maryland, half of them in the Baltimore region, by the end of August.

A Flextronics unit, RTS, serviced Verizon Wireless devices at 22 locations across the state but will no longer be doing so, the company told the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Just under 90 of the layoffs will affect employees assigned to Baltimore-area locations.

The company could not immediately be reached for comment.
