Did you catch the story in today's Sun detailing all the free yoga classes and other free fitness options in the Baltimore area?
Here's a few more options for you:
The Downtown Partnership offers free yoga classes from noon to 1 p.m. in Preston Gardens (on St. Paul St, near Mercy Hospital) with Merritt Athletic Club instructors. You need to bring your own mat.
In June, you can also take free fitness classes in Center Plaza led by Brick Bodies. The classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday nights, except for June 29, when the class will be at lunchtime (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
Updated: Baltimore's Department of Recreation and Parks offers Ride Around the Reservoir at Druid Hill Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings through Aug. 31.
Rec & Parks provides the bikes (and bike helmets) for adults and kids. You'll also have to leave a photo ID or credit card. A small monetary donation is accepted and appreciated but not required, according to a Rec & Parks spokeswoman.
Don't worry if it's been years since you were last on a bike --- these are big, comfy beach cruisers, the kind you rode as a kid. When I tried it myself a few weeks ago, it was as easy to regain confidence on two wheels as everyone says it is.
(It was not as easy to remember how to stop, however. But thankfully that man got out of the way, just in time ...)
And if you're interested in more fitness and exercise tips and info, check out our Exercists blog, which first mentioned these free yoga classes a few weeks ago.
By the way, today's story also details how to score free trials at area gyms and training academies, so you can do a few test runs (or classes) before you commit to a membership.
When you are ready to join a gym, remember you also have the right to cancel a health club membership contract within three days of signing, according to the Maryland Attorney General's office. Here is more information about consumer protections when joining a gym or fitness center.
