Two Cockeysville ensembles earn musical high notes

Education Notes

June 01, 2011

Two music ensembles from Cockeysville Middle School were among six county ensembles overall to receive superior ratings — the highest rating available — at state music festivals this spring.

Cockeysville Middle School "Winds of Cockeysville" and the school's eighth-grade band each achieved the superior rank.

Other Baltimore County Public Schools earning the high rating were two from Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts and one each from Perry Hall High School and Sudbrook Magnet Middle School –

The High School State Festivals were held April 26-30 at Morgan State University. The Middle School State Festivals were held at South Carroll High School, May 2-6.

To participate in a state music festival, ensembles must first qualify by receiving a superior rating during their county level assessments.

In total 25 BCPS ensembles qualified to participate in the state festivals by receiving a superior rating at the county level assessment.

Groups that received superior ratings at the county level but did not participate in a state festival included these local groups: Dulaney High School Symphonic Winds, George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology Chorale and Towson High School Wind Ensemble.
