Event June 4 and 5 will feature anniversary train

May 27, 2011|By Beverly Southall

Mark on your calendar for the first weekend in June to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Amtrak. See the history of Amtrak and the Marc trains at the Perryville Marc Train Station June 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will feature a special anniversary train with historic locomotives and recent renovated baggage cars. This special train is traveling all over the country and will be quite special to see. Also, there will be special children's corner and displays, including vintage advertising, past menus, dinnerware, uniforms and other memorabilia. Don't miss this special weekend in the life of our train systems.

Don't forget that the Perryville Railroad Museum is open every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Also you can make an appointment for other times by calling Patrick Stetina, 410-939-0546, or John MClune Sr., 410-642-3429.

Congratulations to Isabelle Glatts on being named the sixth grade winner of the Delaware County Young Authors competition. Issi was one of 100 winners out of 1,500 entries. To enter, Issi wrote a short story.

Diane McGrillis, Gail Ashby and I, along with Diane's husband, Joe, and her daughter, Allison, and two grandsons and Steven Ashby did the walk (Joe did the run) at the Spring Fling. What a great day down at Perryville Middle School. It was truly a bad deal with the weather but the event was quite successful. All kinds of booths with things for sale, music and entertainment. Keep an eye out for a Fall Fling coming in October. Don't miss it. If it is anything like the Spring Fling, you will have a great time.

Congratulations to the new Perryville town commissioners — incumbent Michelle Linkey and new member Michael Dawson.

Cindi, Doug and Carly Labant, Ruth and Hannah Ventela and I traveled to New Jersey to celebrate the 50th birthday of my sister, Kimi Jenkins. John Jenkins and their children, Johnny, Randi and Connor, hosted a party in Kimi's honor. More than 70 people attended the festivities.
