The American Legion Post 60 will lay a wreath at a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Sandy Spring Road at Nichols Drive. The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department's ceremony, starting at 11 a.m., will recognize Baltimore City firefighter, probationary pipeman Charles Franke, who was killed in the line of duty in 1898. Franke responded with Baltimore City Engine 10 on a train to help fight a fire at the Milstead Hotel, in Laurel, but was struck and killed while helping to unload the steam engine from the train. In the event of rain, the fire department ceremony will be moved to the firehouse, 7411 Cherry Lane.
