Community fair

The North Laurel-Savage Multiservice Center and several Howard County nonprofit organizations will present the annual North Laurel Community Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center, 9105-I All Saints Road in Laurel. The free fair will offer preventive health screenings, including blood pressure and diabetes screenings. The Maryland Food Bank and Priority Partners will provide 6,000 pounds of food for needy families. Also featured will be healthy eating tips, free family portraits, face painting and more.

'The Paper Show'

An exhibition of works by Lisa Hillring, Virginia Rose Kane and Leora "Lee" Smith that incorporate handmade paper, cut paper, collage and woven paper runs through Saturday, May 28, in Tai Sophia Institute's Himmelfarb Gallery, 7750 Montpelier Road in Laurel. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Information: 410-888-9048 or tai.edu.

Art exhibit

"And They're Off!: 100 Years at Laurel Park," a centennial exhibit at the Laurel Museum, explores the history and racing highlights of Laurel Park, and the track's impact on the community. The museum is at 817 Main St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Information: laurelhistoricalsociety.org.

Fun at the library

A "Picture Book Parade!" for children ages 2-5 with an adult will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Savage branch of the Howard County Public Library. Pajama Time, when children may wear pajamas and bring teddy bears and blankets, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays. The branch is at 9525 Durness Lane in Laurel. Information: 410-880-5980.

Around town

Family support meeting Group provides support and education to families and friends of adults with a mental illness. Meeting takes place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Room 3, 10755 Scaggsville Road in Laurel. Information: 410-772-9300.
