Blood donations

The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region of the American Red Cross is requesting blood donations. Eligible donors can call 800-GIVE-LIFE to schedule an appointment. Platelet donors should call 800-272-2123.

Emergency health care: Howard County Citizens Association and the Howard County Health Department will jointly sponsor a discussion informing residents when to use the emergency room and when other options are more appropriate. Fitness and sports medicine clinic: Howard County General Hospital, in partnership with The Mall in Columbia will offer a free fitness and sports medicine clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Center Court. Learn fitness tips and ways to incorporate more movement in your life, participate in screenings and talk to physician experts. Information: 410-740-7601.

Health education program: Yoga for patients, caregivers and survivors. •Caregivers meet at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of every month.

Support group for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents with serious mental health issues meets at 1:30 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in Room 204, First Presbyterian Church, 8325 Presbyterian Circle, Columbia, and the last Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m., Faulkner Ridge Center, 10598 Marble Faun Court, Columbia. Family support group sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness is offered to family and friends of adults with mental illnesses.
