MIAA A Conference boys lacrosse championship

No. 1 Calvert Hall (17-1) vs. No. 2 Gilman (12-5)

When: Friday, 8 p.m.

Where: Johnny Unitas Stadium, Towson University

Key players to watch

Calvert Hall: Ryan Brown, Jr., A; Evan Connell, Jr., D; Garrett Epple, So., D; Patrick Kelly, Jr., A; Stephen Kelly, So., M.

Gilman: Conor Doyle, Sr., A; Robby Haus, Jr., D; Gordie Koerber, Jr., A; Palmer Murray, Sr., G; Ryan Tucker, Sr., M.

Outlook: Following a convincing 11-4 semifinal win over defending league champ St. Paul's on Tuesday, the top-ranked Cardinals further separated themselves from the rest of the pack this season. While the Cardinals dominated, Gilman advanced in improbable fashion with a 7-6 overtime win against Boys' Latin, scoring three man-down goals in the final minute of regulation to force the extra time. Calvert Hall has a balanced attack with a different hero every game. On Tuesday, it was Brown who was afforded space and made the Crusaders pay with six goals. Stephen Kelly has been dominant on faceoffs, and Connell and Epple are the glue on a stingy defense. For Gilman, Doyle has come up with timely goals all season and Tucker can control the middle. The Greyhounds will have to neutralize Stephen Kelly on faceoffs and get a fine performance in goal from Murray, who has shown he's been up to the task many times this season. In the regular season, Calvert Hall made the plays in the fourth quarter to come away with a 9-5 win at Gilman on April 26.
