The Hereford senior has played No. 1 singles for the Bulls since he was a freshman. Last week, he earned his first Baltimore County title. To accomplish that feat, Charchalis had to play five matches over four days, including a quarterfinal match that lasted more than two-and-a-half hours. He also came back from a break down in another match and won the final, 6-2, 7-5. Charchalis, 18, has two seconds and a third-place finish in the county tournament prior to this year. His overall career record going into regional play is 61-7 and he is 14-1 this season. He carries a 3.75 grade-point-average and will attend Lafayette next year to study economics. "He's very consistent with his strokes, has good court coverage and a lot of tenanacity," said Hereford coach Mark Trotta. "He works very hard and is very deserving of his success."
