Tai Sophia Institute will host two weeks of free wellness classes at 7750 Montpelier Road in Laurel. In addition to free evening wellness talks and workshops, free movement and meditation preview classes will offer participants the chance to try meditation, qi gong and yoga as well as preview a future meditation class series. The North Laurel-Savage Multiservice Center and several Howard County nonprofit organizations will present the annual North Laurel Community Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center, 9105-I All Saints Road in Laurel. The free fair will offer preventive health screenings, including blood pressure and diabetes screenings. The Maryland Food Bank and Priority Partners will provide 6,000 pounds of food for needy families. Also featured will be healthy eating tips, free family portraits, face painting and more.
'The Paper Show'
An exhibition of works by Lisa Hillring, Virginia Rose Kane and Leora "Lee" Smith that explore the use of paper runs through Saturday, May 28, in Tai Sophia Institute's Himmelfarb Gallery, 7750 Montpelier Road in Laurel. The artists incorporate the techniques of handmade paper, cut paper, collage and woven paper. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. "And They're Off!: 100 Years at Laurel Park," a centennial exhibit at the Laurel Museum, explores the history and racing highlights of Laurel Park, and the track's impact on the community. Fun at the library
A "Picture Book Parade!" for children ages 2-5 with an adult will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Savage branch of the Howard County Public Library.
