Health and fitness day

The Pasadena Senior Activity Center is participating in the 18th annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 25 at the center, 4103 Mountain Road. Information: 410-222-0030 or go to aacounty.org/aging.

Health fair

The South County Senior Activity Center will host a health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the center, 27 Stepneys Lane in Edgewater. The event is open to senior members of the community who will receive health screenings and educational materials without charge. The fair will feature memory, hearing, foot and diabetes screenings as well as blood pressure monitoring. Representatives will be available from the wellness program at Anne Arundel Medical Center, the National Association on Mental Illness, Partners in Care and Pets on Wheels. Health insurance staff from the county Department of Aging and Disabilities will provide information on Medicare insurance choices. Information: 410-222-1927 or 410-798-4802.

Housing options for seniors

A free class, "Housing Options for Seniors in Anne Arundel County," will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 17 at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton. Participants can learn about independent living, assisted living and continuing care housing options. They also can learn how to determine the worth of their home, how to understand the equity in it and to determine whether a change should be made. Additional topics will include cost considerations, mortgage options, locations, zoning for those 55 and older, safety measures and one-level living. Reservations and information: 410-533-8969.

Memorial Day concert

The Heritage Harbour Chorus will present a musical tribute to Memorial Day at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Ave. Free. Information: 410-222-1818.

Workshops

The Department of Aging and Disabilities will present a free six-week workshop series from 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Thursdays through May 19 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie. "Living Healthy with Chronic Conditions" is a self-management program to help adults handle chronic health conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, obesity, pain, anxiety and heart disease. Presenters will share techniques for dealing with frustration, fatigue and isolation. Learn about appropriate exercise and medications, communication with family and health professionals, nutrition and evaluation of new treatments. Trips

•The trip committee at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center is accepting reservations for a trip to Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton on June 2. The trip will include a tour of a rose garden, cottage garden, water garden and the Ladew house, which is decorated with English antiques, paintings, photographs and hunting memorabilia. After the tour, participants will have a family-style luncheon at Friendly Farm Restaurant and browse the restaurant's country shop, which offers gifts, scents, sweets and baked goods. Cost is $75. •The trip committee at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center in Odenton is accepting reservations for a trip to Allenberry Playhouse in Boiling Springs, Pa., to see "Hello, Dolly!" The bus will leave the senior center at 1275 Odenton Road at 9:15 a.m. June 22 and return at 5:15 p.m. A buffet lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and show begins at 1 p.m. Cost is $85, with a $25 deposit due with reservation. Senior services

The county Department of Aging and Disabilities has published the 2010-2011 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults With Disabilities and Caregivers," a free directory of businesses and service providers. Copies are available at department headquarters at the Heritage Office Complex, 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis; at the seven senior activity centers; at library branches; and at Food Lion, Wawa and CVS stores. Information on assisted-living homes and other housing options for seniors has been updated on the county Department of Aging and Disabilities website at http://www.aacounty.org/aging.

Arnold Senior Activity Center The following activities will be offered at the center, 44 Church Road, Arnold:

•Scrabble: Challenge your brain by playing Scrabble, 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays. New participants are welcome. Information: 410-222-1922.
