Archbishop Spalding names new principal
Lewis Van Wambeke will succeed Kathleen Mahar as principal of Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn. Van Wambeke has extensive experience as a science educator, department chairman, basketball coach and mentor in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. He has been a part of the school since 2005, when he served as assistant principal of student affairs and later moved to assistant principal of academic affairs. He holds a bachelor's degree in biology from St. Mary's College and a master's degree in leadership in teaching from the College of Notre Dame. The transistion will place July 1.
Engineering scholarships
Anne Arundel Community College has been awarded a $598,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to help support the college's Engineering Scholars Program. The grant will provide scholarships of up to $4,000 annually to financially needy, academically talented students to help them graduate from the school's engineering programs, transfer to a four-year institution and enter the workforce.
