The Baltimore Sun had total average circulation of 195,561 copies daily and 343,552 on Sunday in the six months that ended March 31, according to an Audit Bureau of Circulations report released Tuesday.
The report was the first from ABC to reflect a new set of rules that made it difficult to compare the numbers to those of previous periods. The changes in circulation reporting, agreed to by newspaper publishers and advertisers, added some categories and deleted others.
The Sun's circulation numbers included not only print but "digital replica" — a digital edition with access restricted to subscribers or registered users.
By total average circulation, The Sun ranked 23rd among the top 25 Sunday newspapers in the United States, up a notch from its 24th spot as of Sept. 30.
A Baltimore Sun spokeswoman said the newspaper's circulation has shown year-over-year improvement. The number of home delivery Sunday subscribers increased 1.6 percent as of March 31 compared with the six months that ended March 31, 2010. The company attributed that growth to the addition of six new print sections.
