April 29, 2011|By Liz F. Kay, The Baltimore Sun

A man and a woman were critically injured in a single-vehicle accident just before midnight Thursday in Pasadena, according to Anne Arundel County police.

The driver, identified as Rhonda Lee Kavanagh, 42, of Glen Burnie, and her passenger, John Wayne Lucia III, 24, also of Glen Burnie, had to be extricated by firefighters after the 2008 Mini Cooper hit a utility pole off the west side of Solley Road near Powhatan Beach Road.

Kavanagh and Lucia were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Police said speed, driver error and alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident. The crash remains under investigation; no charges have been filed.
