Concert series

The Columbia Jazz Band opens the season for the William Paca Garden Concert Series at 6 p.m. on May 19 at 186 Prince George St. in Annapolis. Concert-goers can take advantage of terrace seating or bring blankets and picnic on the Paca House lawn (no bottles or spirits). A cash bar will be available for snacks and beverages, ID required for all beer and wine purchases. Admission is $10, $12 at the door; $5 for children ages 5-15, free for children 5 and younger. Golf tournament

The Fort Meade Directorate of Emergency Services will hold a First Responder Golf Classic, 9 a.m. on May 20, at The Courses, 6800 Mapes Road. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with breakfast provided. An awards banquet with dinner will be held after the tournament. Tournament play is a captain's choice best ball with a four-player team. Prizes will be awarded for long drive, straight drive and closest to pin. Prizes will also be awarded for top-placed teams as well as door prizes. Cost is $65 for members and $85 for non-members. Theater production

Colonial Players' production of the comedy "Lettice and Lovage" will be presented Sunday, May 8, through May 28 at 108 East St. in Annapolis. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sundays, and a 7:30 p.m. show on May 15. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and students. Strawberry festival

Annual strawberry festival will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 7606 Quarterfield Road in Glen Burnie. There will be craft tables, baked goods and a white elephant sale. Outside yard sale spaces will be available at $10 per space. Hot dogs, barbecue, salads and beverages will be available for purchase. Fresh-picked strawberries over vanilla ice cream will be the feature of the day. Proceeds benefit projects at the church. Information: 410-674-4118.

Mental health expo

A Mental Health Awareness Expo will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Severna Park Middle School, 450 Jumpers Hole Road. Expo is sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues and the Anne Arundel County Special Education Citizens' Advisory Committee. The expo is to help parents, educators and community members gain a better understanding of issues faced by students with a mental health disorder and their families, including an overview of the resources, services and support available in the school setting as well as in the home and community. Ballet open houses

In observance of National Dance Week, Ballet 40/60 will hold observational open houses through Sunday, May 1, at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase St., Annapolis. Ballet 40/60 classes are designed for adults over 40 who have little or no experience in ballet, as well as for those coming back to ballet after some time away. The class was developed by instructor Barbara Owen to increase strength, flexibility, balance and awareness of body alignment. Auditions

Bowie Community Theatre will hold auditions for the roles of four men and four women in the "Language of Angels" at 7:30 p.m. May 9-10, with callbacks on May 11, at Bowie Playhouse, White Marsh Recreation Park, 16500 White Marsh Park Drive, Bowie. Guided arboretum walks

On Saturdays through November, visitors can explore Adkins Arboretum's diverse plant communities on a guided walk led by an arboretum naturalist. Explore the bottomland forest and upland paths, meander through beech trees, traverse the native meadows and follow the narrow Tuckahoe Creekside. The 11 a.m. walks are free for members and free with admission for the public. The hour-long tours begin at the visitors center. Information: 410-634-2847.
