Stock up on cheap books as Daedalus prepares to close

Belvedere Square location to close May 15

April 19, 2011|By Andrea K. Walker

Daedalus Books is closing its Belvedere Square location to the dismay of bookworms throughout the city.

On the bright side, fans of the store will be able to get some great book bargains before the store is slated to close May 15.

The store is already discounting books by 30 percent to get rid of inventory. Prices could be slashed as much as 50 percent by the time it closes, a store manager said.

Daedalus specializes in remainder books sales - the excess inventory that publishing houses sell at a discount - so their books are already pretty cheap. The additional discounts only sweeten the deal.

Daedalus will still keep its bookstore and warehouse in Columbia. Customers will also still be able to buy books from their Internet site.
