Miss Fleetfoot breezes to win in $75K Primonetta Stakes
Ghost Ridge Farms & Phil Schoenthal's Miss Fleetfoot demonstrated her love for adverse weather conditions when she sailed through an afternoon storm Saturday to win the feature at Pimlico Race Course, the $75,000 Primonetta Stakes for fillies and mares. Now 4-for-7 lifetime racing on an off-track, the 6-year-old rushed into contention under jockey Abel Castellano, pressing and dueling with speedy front-runner Five Diamonds through the heavy rain and gusty wind before powering away to win the six-furlong test by 21/4 lengths in 1 minute, 12.02 seconds. Post time favorite Wind Caper closed to take second, while Tough Talkin Lady finished a distant third. "When we came out of the gate, she was running very hard in the slop, and I felt like I had a lot of horse from the backside all the way home," Castellano said. "Turning for home I asked her to go, and she never stopped. She was so happy running in the slop." The winner, who is trained by Schoenthal, paid $11.40. The exacta with Wind Caper returned $25, and the triple with Tough Talkin' Lady paid $63.40.
