Week ahead for state men

April 14, 2011

NO. 3 JOHNS HOPKINS (8-2)

Coming up: At No. 7 Maryland, Saturday, 8 p.m.

Comment: The Blue Jays lead the series, 67-38-1, and have won seven of the previous nine meetings.

NO. 7 MARYLAND (8-2)

Coming up: Vs. No. 3 Johns Hopkins, Saturday, 8 p.m.

Comment: The Terps are just one of two teams in Division I ranked in the top 10 in both offense and defense. (No. 19 Yale is the other.)

NO. 20 LOYOLA (6-3)

Coming up: At Georgetown, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Comment: The Greyhounds own a 27-6 advantage in the series and have won four of the last five meetings.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S (5-5)

Coming up: At Quinnipiac, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Mountaineers could move a step closer to grabbing the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the Northeast Conference tournament by defeating the Bobcats.

NAVY (4-7)

Coming up: Vs. No. 16 Army, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Comment: The Midshipmen are 57-29-3 in this series, but the Black Knights have captured three of the previous four meetings.

TOWSON (2-8)

Coming up: At Penn State, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Comment: The Tigers are 13-4 against the Nittany Lions, but a loss would likely eliminate Towson from contention for a spot in the four-team Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

UMBC (4-5)

Coming up: At Albany, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Comment: The Retrievers have won eight of 12 games in this series, but fell to the Great Danes in the America East tournament semifinals last May.
