A 53-year-old Laurel man died Monday when the car he was driving left the road and struck a nearby fence, Howard County police said.

Russell Newton Estep of the 10300 block of Scaggsville Road was driving a 1997 BMW M3 east on Dorsey Mill Road at about 8:43 p.m., police said, when his car left the roadway on a curve, struck an embankment, went into the westbound side of the road, then hit a split, rail fence. Estep died at the scene of his injuries, police said.

A stretch of Dorsey Mill Road between Clarks Meadow Drive and Roxbury Road was closed for about three hours during the police investigation.
