The Maryland Jockey Club has filed a motion to move a $600 million lawsuit filed against it by the Cordish Cos. from Baltimore City to Anne Arundel County.
Cordish filed the suit against the Jockey Club and former casino business partners in Indiana on Feb. 15 alleging the two conspired to defame the Baltimore development company in its efforts to build a slots parlor at Arundel Mills mall.
The Jockey Club said in a court filing that there is no basis to have the suit in Baltimore City. It should be in Anne Arundel where all other legal matters regarding the case have been held. The wrongdoing that Cordish claims was also committed in Anne Arundel, not Baltimore, the motion points out.
The motion was filed Mar. 25, and a hearing will be held May 2.
Cordish broke ground on the $1 billion Anne Arundel County casino in January.
