Brooks Robinson continues to recuperate from an infection that has hospitalized him for more than a week, a source close to the family said Thursday. Robinson, 73, the Orioles' Hall of Fame third baseman, was admitted to Greater Baltimore Medical Center March 30 with the infection, one day before he was to undergo an outpatient procedure there.
"Everything is going well, everything is progressing," the source said. "Brooks is on a lot of antibiotics and he's just exhausted."
Robinson is not allowed to have visitors, other than family, or take phone calls. Friends and fans have sent get well notes via email, which hospital officials are assembling in books and presenting to him.
Several days ago, Brooks and his wife, Connie, read one of the books together, the source said. Another collection of 390 e-mails were to be delivered to Robinson today.
There's no word as to how long he'll be hospitalized.
"They aren't going to release him until the infection is completely gone," the source said.
