Why won't The Sun give us the real numbers on the state budget?

Instead of writing extensively on the so-called "budget gap," I wish The Sun would throw some "Light for All" — your motto — on the actual year-over-year increases in spending, as the private sector does.

Just going to the budget overviews on the Maryland budget department's website shows that spending is up 6 percent over last year, from $32.2 billion in 2011 to $34.2 billion in 2012.

It would be enlightening to know where budget increases and decreases are at on real year-to-year basis instead of the phony "budget cut" headlines propagated by the governor and reported by The Sun.
