Two major road closure plans announced in Balto. Co.

Falls Road in Sparks, I-695 and Liberty Road in Lochearn affected

April 02, 2011|By Jessica Anderson, The Baltimore Sun

Baltimore County drivers can expect traffic disruptions for road improvement projects in Sparks and Lochearn over the coming weeks, according to the State Highway Administration.

In northern Baltimore County, road crews will patch and resurface Falls Road between Shawan and Stringtown roads beginning Monday. Lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The project is expected to be completed this summer.

Also beginning this week, overnight traffic near Interstate 695 and Liberty Road will be disrupted as state highway crews install structural steel for a bridge replacement project.

Beginning 7 p.m. Sunday, drivers should expect overnight lane and ramp closures at the interchange Sunday through Thursday nights. The temporary closures are as follows for I-695:

•7 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Single right lane closures along the inner and outer loop of I-695.

•11 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Closure and detour at Exit 18B ramp from I-695 north to Liberty Road west. To get around the closure, follow I-695 North past Exit 19, then take Interstate 795 to Exit 20, which is Reisterstown Road. Follow that road through the interchange back onto I-695 south, past Exit 19 back to Exit 18 and Liberty Road west.

Closure for Liberty Road:

•7 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Single left lane closures, east and west near the I-695 interchange.

•11 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Crews will periodically stop all traffic on both directions of Liberty Road at the interchange for up to 15 minutes at a time to move the steel beams into place over Liberty Road.

In case of inclement weather, the steel beam work and closures will take place the week of April 10.
