City police were investigating a fatal daytime shooting Thursday in Northeast Baltimore's Frankford neighborhood and said a Halethorpe man shot Wednesday afternoon in a Pigtown parking lot had died of his injuries.

Police said a 31-year-old man was shot in the face about 2 p.m. Thursday in the 6000 block of Moravia Park Drive in the Frankford neighborhood, near where another man was killed Tuesday in a shopping center parking lot. Thursday's victim was not immediately identified.

The daylight killing was the fourth this week.

On Wednesday, officers found Murrell A. Hearns Jr., 31, of Halethorpe in a parking lot in the 700 block of Washington Blvd. in Pigtown with gunshot wounds to the back of the head and leg.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Wednesday that Hearns and two others had gotten into an altercation and that it did "not appear that it was a random attack."

Hearns was a "mild-mannered gentleman" and "always smiling," according to Damien Pollard, who said he had employed him as a stocker at a building materials distributor until the company was forced to lay him off.

"Another sad day for Baltimore," Pollard wrote in an email. "Another family loses their son and their father."
