Ochocinco made an 'honorary member' of Sporting KC

March 29, 2011|By Matt Vensel

Chad Ochocinco was unsuccessful in his attempt to crack the roster of MLS soccer squad Sporting Kansas City, who evaluated the Bengals wide receiver in a week-long tryout. He wasn't offered a contract, but today he was named an "honorary member" of the team by coach Peter Vermes.

If he wishes, Ochocinco will be allowed to continue honing his skills -- and bringing in publicity -- on the club's reserve team. He told The Kansas City Star that he plans on accepting the invitation.

"It’s awesome," Ochocinco said this morning. "Basically I can stay here and train as I please, which is really cool. Words can’t describe how thankful I am to be able to be here."

He added that he will "be in ridiculous shape" whenever the lockout gets resolved.

I thought you might want to see video of Ochocinco out there on the pitch, so here you go:
