Notes: Phillies' Lidge likely to begin season on DL

March 26, 2011

PHILLIES: Closer Brad Lidge likely will start the season on the disabled list for the third time in four years because of pain behind his right shoulder. Lidge left his outing Thursday because of the issue and is expected to undergo an MRI when the team returns to Philadelphia next week.

Mitre began spring training as a candidate for one of two available rotation spots but allowed seven runs and 13 hits in 11 innings. Millwood, 36, went 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA in 31 starts for the Orioles last year.

RANGERS: RHP Tommy Hunter is almost certain to start the season on the DL after straining his right groin Thursday — about two hours after the Rangers named him to their rotation.
