In reporting on Gaza, media is pro-Israel

March 26, 2011

The recent letter regarding violence in the Middle East ("Atrocity committed against Israeli family gets no coverage," March 25) could not be further from the truth. In fact, the pro-Israel mainstream media routinely acts as a propaganda arm for Israel, always referring to Israeli murders of Palestinians as "self-defense" while describing Palestinian murders as "terrorist acts."

When Israel invaded Gaza in 2009 and murdered 1,400 Palestinians, a majority of whom were civilians, including over 300 children, compared to 13 Israelis killed, the media called these murders justified, even though the UN Goldstone Report accused Israel of "...committing war crimes and state terrorism against the civilian population of Gaza."

The U.S. must end all aid to Israel — financial, military and political — while allowing the international community to impose a two-state peace settlement on Israel based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital. This would bring peace to the region and an end to violence against both Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
