A 22-year-old Essex man was shot in the leg Thursday night outside his home, and police are asking anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

The man, who lives in the 600 block of New Jersey Ave., heard a noise similar to a rock or object hitting his home around 8:15 p.m., said Cathy Batton, a spokeswoman for the police department. When he stepped outside to investigate, he was shot in the leg, Batton said.

The man's injuries are non-life-threatening and police have no suspects at this time, she said. Anyone who provides information through Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP could be eligible for a reward.
