Line dancing

A line dancing party will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Ave. Refreshments will be served. Sign-up and information: 410-222-1818.

Safe-driving training

AARP offers a safe-driving class from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Ave. Cost is $12 for AARP members, $14 for nonmembers. Leadership awards

The county Department of Aging and Disabilities is seeking nominations for the 2011 Governor's Leadership in Aging Awards. The awards ceremony is held during Older Americans/Marylanders Month in May to recognize individuals, groups and organizations for excellence and outstanding contributions to the field of aging and quality of life for seniors. Nominations can be made in any of four categories: Trailblazer, Visual or Performing Arts, Health and Vitality, and Photography. Sponsorships are being accepted. Spring registration

The Arnold Senior Center's spring classes begin Monday, April 4. Registration, which is now open, ends after classes meet for two weeks. There is a $40 fee for all students. Senior services

The county Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2010-2011 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults With Disabilities and Caregivers," a free directory of businesses and service providers. Copies are available at department headquarters at the Heritage Office Complex, 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis, and at the seven senior activity centers, libraries, Food Lion, Wawa and CVS stores. Arnold Senior Activity Center The following activities will be offered at the center, 44 Church Road, Arnold. Information: 410-222-1922.

•Scrabble: Challenge your brain by playing Scrabble, 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays. New participants are welcome. 410-222-1922.

•Memoir writing: The course, which teaches how to write an autobiography, is held 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays. There will be an opportunity to learn listening and interviewing skills, writing tips and proofreading. Information and registration: 410-222-1922.

Single seniors group The Single Seniors Group at Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie, encourages companionship, support and group participation in activities such as movies, dances, picnics and tours. Information: 410-222-6680 or and click on the senior center.

Health insurance A representative from the Senior Health Insurance Program is available by appointment to discuss health insurance concerns at the Arnold Senior Activity Center. Appointments and information: 410-222-1922.

Volunteer grandparents sought The Foster Grandparents Program of the county Department of Aging and Disabilities seeks volunteer grandparents to help mentor children with special needs. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week, providing mentoring, tutoring, advice and attention, teaching life skills to children in special education classes, staffing a homeless shelter, a family support center and other agencies. Activities may include reading stories, listening, helping children feed themselves, setting the table, working with puzzles, and helping children learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, vacation, sick leave, free transportation, lunch and a physical exam.
