Rogers' notes: Brewers' Braun leaves with rib strain

BREWERS: LF Ryan Braun left Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks after the top of the first inning because of a strained muscle in his ribcage. Braun wasn't involved in any plays in the inning, and the team called him day-to-day.

NATIONALS: RF Bryce Harper was optioned to Class A Hagerstown. GM Mike Rizzo said the top pick in last year's draft needs more playing time to prepare for the season. Harper, 18, hit .389 in 13 spring games.

RED SOX: 1B Adrian Gonzalez had a single and a sacrifice fly in his first game with the team, a 9-2 victory over the Marlins. Gonzalez, acquired in a trade with the Padres in December, had been held back to rehab his surgically repaired right shoulder.

METS: C Ronny Paulino arrived in camp after a three-week delay because of visa problems caused by his 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. He must serve the final eight games at the start of this season.

EXTRA INNINGS: LHP Zach Duke left the Diamondbacks' game against the Rockies after getting hit on his left hand by a Charlie Blackmon line drive in the second inning. … Rangers RHP Brett Tomko, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009 because of a nerve problem in his right arm, was moved to the major league camp. Tomko agreed to a minor league deal last month. … The Phillies signed GM Ruben Amaro Jr. to a four-year contract extension through 2015.Tribune news services
