Lawrence F. Maykrantz has been appointed president of St. John Properties Inc. of Baltimore, one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the region, effective immediately.

Formerly senior vice president and chief financial officer of St. John Properties, Maykrantz replaces Edward A. St. John, who founded the predecessor company of St. John Properties, MIE Properties, in 1971.

St. John becomes chairman of the board of the firm, which owns and has developed more than 14 million square feet of real estate in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Maykrantz has been with St. John Properties since 1982 and has been responsible for project financing, tax planning and accounting functions. As president, he will oversee all day-to-day functions of St. John Properties, with specific responsibilities including all phases of development, asset management, marketing, leasing and financial operations.

As chairman, St. John will focus on long-range planning and overseeing the operations of the Edward St. John Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm.
