Police seek man in east-side abduction

Police are looking for a man who reportedly forced a 19-year-old woman into his SUV on the east side of the city Friday night before she was able to escape, a spokesman said.

The woman was walking in the 900 block of North Milton Ave. around 7:30 p.m. when a man drove up and asked if she needed a ride, according to Detective Jeremy Silbert. When she declined, the man got out of the car and grabbed the woman, forcing her into the car. The man asked the woman if she wanted to have sex and she refused, Silbert said.

The woman escaped the vehicle in the 200 block of North Highland Ave., about a mile southeast of where she was abducted, and called police, Silbert said. He did not know how she was able to get away or if the car was moving at the time. She suffered no physical injuries, he said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 30 to 40 years old, short and chubby with black hair, baseball cap, round frame eyeglasses and wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans and tan boots. He was driving a dark SUV with a tan stripe on the side.
