Care for cancer patients
The Wellness House of Annapolis offers services and programs to assist those living with cancer and their relatives, including children. Walk-in hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. All classes and services are free for cancer patients, caregivers and families. Pre-registration is required. New community health e-mail alert system
The county Department of Health has a new community health e-mail alert system to provide timely notices about department services and community health issues. Also, a recreational water quality e-mail alert system has been in effect since 2006. It alerts subscribers when a closure or advisory is issued for a county waterway. Patient disability pamphlet
The county Commission on Disability Issues offers a pamphlet, "Doctors' Offices and Patients With Disabilities Working Together," with suggestions for doctors to make visits go more smoothly, including information on training staff, obtaining equipment for the disabled and welcoming service animals. Prostate cancer brochure
The county Health Department's Learn to Live program offers a free brochure, "Don't Get Hit Below the Belt," with information on the risks of prostate cancer, prevention and the two most commonly used methods of screening. Information: 410-222-7979 or learntolivehealthy.org.
Free flu vaccinations
The Department of Health offers free flu shots and nasal-spray vaccines during weekly walk-in clinics or by scheduling appointments at the Glen Burnie and Parole health centers. The nasal-spray vaccine is for healthy people ages 2 to 49, but is not for pregnant women. The new high-dose flu shot for people 65 and older is also provided. Caregivers support group Provides information, respite and support to people who give care to family and friends. Diabetes support group For diabetics and their families, the group meets 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month in the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 223, Glen Burnie.

Bereavement support groups
General support group for those 18 and older grieving the loss of a loved one meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays through March 24 at the Life Center, 445 Defense Highway in Annapolis.
•Suicide support group for those 18 and older meets monthly on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the center.
•"Stepping Stones," a support group for children ages 8-13 who are grieving the loss of a loved one, meets from 10 a.m. to noon monthly on Saturdays at the center.
